Premier Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine - Greensburg, PA

The dedicated team at DiCesare Orthopedic Medicine was founded by an osteopathically trained, board-certified sports medicine physician, who has been offering non-surgical treatments to the Greensburg area for the last decade. Known as “The Gentle Injector,” he has earned a reputation among patients for delivering joint injections in a way that minimizes pain and discomfort. He has also lectured on a national level about joint injection, and instructed other physicians world-wide on his injection techniques.

We are not like traditional orthopedic practices that take a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment, which often rely on steroids and surgical intervention. Patients at our practice will first be given a thorough orthopedic evaluation to determine the nature and severity of the injury.

Then, Dr. DiCesare will determine the best course of treatment using gentle, alternative methods, including osteopathic manipulation. Our practice believes strongly in customized treatment that takes into account each and every patient’s medical history, current lifestyle, and future goals.

Frequently Asked Question

What Is Osteopathic Manipulation?

Osteopathic manipulation is a hands-on technique used by osteopathic doctors (DOs) to diagnose, treat, and prevent certain orthopedic injuries. A patient’s muscles and joints are moved using techniques such as stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.

This technique is commonly used to treat:

  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Repetitive stress injuries (work injuries)
  • Migraines
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)

What Are The Benefits of Osteopathic Manipulation?

There are a number of important benefits to this type of therapy, including:

  • Can treat patients of all ages and backgrounds
  • Can replace surgery and drugs
  • Promotes healing, not just pain relief
  • Enhances overall mobility

Do I Need Osteopathic Manipulation?

Osteopathic manipulation can be incredibly helpful for patients who suffer from a wide variety of musculoskeletal illnesses and injuries. If you are suffering from aches and pains in your muscles or joints, or if you are struggling to manage pain from a chronic or acute injury, we recommend that you make an appointment for an evaluation at DiCesare Orthopedic Medicine.

What Can I Expect During A Session?

During an osteopathic manipulation session, the doctor will spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour performing a variety of techniques to manipulate and apply pressure to your soft tissues. Follow-up appointments typically last 15 to 30 minutes.

The techniques used include:

  • Soft tissue - Applies deep pressure and rhythmic stretching to the spine.
  • Muscle energy - Patient uses their muscles from specific positions while the doctor applies counterforce.
  • Thrust - Also known as the “cracking” technique, the doctor will use a high velocity force to restore a joint to its original range of motion.
  • Counterstrain - Patient moves away from a specific position where their motion is restricted to a position where they feel more comfortable.
